79th Independence Day, 2025: Roadmap for a Viksit Bharat, 2047

Context: The Prime Minister of India delivered his longest and most decisive address on 79th Independence Day, lasting 103 minutes, to unveil a comprehensive roadmap for a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

 

Objective: To transform Indian economy into a $10 trillion economy by 2047, thereby making the Indian economy globally more competitive, socially inclusive, and strategically autonomous.

 

Vision: The roadmap is founded upon the conceptual framework of ‘Panch Pran’ (Five Pledges) articulated in his 76th Independence Day address in 2022, which delineated the guiding principles for the ‘Amrit Kaal,’ the 25-year period leading up to 2047.

 

The Five Pledges (Panch Pran):

  • Goal of developed India.
  • To remove any trace of colonial mindset.
  • Take pride in our roots.
  • Unity and integrity of the nation.
  • Sense of duty among citizens.

 

Viksit Bharat, 2047: Policy Announcements

  1. Mission Sudarshan Chakra:
    • To strengthen India’s offensive and deterrent capabilities.
    • To enhance rapid, precise, and powerful defence responses, reinforcing India’s strategic autonomy.
    • All public places will be covered by an expanded nationwide security shield by 2035.
    • This is a national mission to develop an indigenous air defence system.
  2. High-Powered Demography Mission:
    • Aimed at ensuring India’s unity, integrity, and security, and tackling strategic and social challenges.
    • This mission will address the threat of demographic imbalance arising from illegal infiltration and migration in border regions.
  3. Prime Minister Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana:
    • This historic scheme, with an outlay of ₹93,446 crore, will incentivize the creation of over 3 crore jobs in the next two years. Of this, 1.92 crore beneficiaries will be first-time entrants to the workforce. Additionally, the government will provide a financial incentive of ₹15,000 to youth securing their first job in the private sector.
  4. Next-Generation GST Reforms:
  • The implementation of next-generation GST reforms by Diwali will benefit MSMEs, local vendors, and consumers, while simultaneously stimulating economic growth and fostering a more efficient, citizen-friendly economy.
  1. Reform Task Force:
  • A dedicated Reform Task Force will be constituted to overhaul laws and streamline regulations to prepare India for a $10 trillion economy.
  1. Energy and Nuclear Self-Reliance:
  • Through the National Critical Minerals Mission, the country is exploring 1,200 sites to ensure access to minerals essential for energy, industry, and defence.
