Bima Sakhi Yojana


Why is it in the news?

  • Under this scheme started on 9 December 2024, recently the Ministry of Rural Development has taken the initiative to appoint trained women of self-help groups as ‘Bima Sakhi’ at the Panchayat level.

Bima Sakhi Yojana: Main Provisions

  • Objective- To promote women empowerment by making trained women of self-help groups in rural and semi-urban areas as LIC agents (Bima Sakhi) and to promote financial inclusion in these areas.
  • Vision- “Insurance for all by 2047” and “Atmanirbhar India”
  • Eligibility for Bima Sakhi-
  • Minimum age 18 years and maximum age 70 years
  • Minimum qualification – 10th class pass
  • Bima Sakhi gets monthly stipend of Rs 7000, 6000 and 5000 respectively for three years.

  • Employment generation and women’s participation in the workforce
  • Flexible and inclusive insurance system
