National Cooperative Policy 2025: From Cooperation to Prosperity

To be remembered:  The year 2025 is being celebrated as the International Year of Cooperative.

This policy will replace the National Cooperative Policy of the year 2002 and will determine the direction and condition of development of the cooperative sector for 2025-45.


Constitutional Provisions: 97th Constitutional Amendment-2011 provided constitutional status to cooperative societies

  • Article 19 (1) (c) Right to form cooperative societies (Fundamental Right)
  • Article 43 B Promotion of Co-operative Societies (Directive Principles of State Policy)
  • Part- IX B (Article 243 ZH-243 ZT) Provisions related to Administration of Cooperative societies.
  • This policy was made by a committee headed by Suresh Prabhu.

 

Provisions:

  1. At least one Co-operative Society will be opened in every village of the country and five model cooperative villages will be built in every tehsil.
  2. Declaration of cooperative taxies for the future.
  3. Integrating cooperative related schemes like: agriculture sector, dairy sector, financial assistance related etc.

 

Objectives:

  1. This policy is a roadmap for rapid, comprehensive and systematic development of the cooperative sector.
  2. Its objective is to strengthen the rural economy and economically empower youth and women.
  3. Connect 50 crore people to the cooperative structure in the next 10 years and triple their economic contribution.
  4. Promote “White Revolution 2.0” through dairy Co-operative Societies.
  5. Promote food self-sufficiency by increasing the production of pulses, oilseeds and Coarse grains.
